"Planning, lists, details, and notes": isn't that the truth? I feel like it takes me at least six months to prepare for a transition; but closer to a year. I would be very interested in a follow-up articlle when you arrive at your new post; about the process of getting settled and your adjustment to working in a new place!

It certainly makes you stop and think about making your life more portable! I think you point out some useful ideas for turning your expat professional work into a lifestyle. Also, a nice side benefit is that your data is probably more accessible (to you) which should make it easier to get settled and back "into business" when you arrive at your new post.

Thanks for identifying a potentially useful resource. I took a look at the website and I definitely think that it requires an investment of time (and patience) to locate viable opportunities for expats or people with more portable lifestyles.

The other thing that struck me was the relatively dated nature of the content. On the "featured" the number one listing was from January 2008. The next one was from November 2007, followed by July 2007. It could be that this site hasn't been able to show any success to its users (which may mean that deals are being made offline) and so there is less interest in posting new listings.
