Just to keep our job search process on track, we started with the importance of NETWORKING. And for those of us in countries other than our home location, this can be pretty scary – finding where people congregate and getting involved with them to create your support group is more difficult with cultural differences, language limitations, and the normal ‘unknowns’. HOWEVER, don’t give up… make a list of who you DO know in your location – and contact them. The question is not “do you have a job for me” – but rather, “what do you know about working here?”. When people are asked about themselves and what they know, they are surprisingly willing to respond – people like to hear themselves talk!
Of course, the follow-on question is: “who do you know that I can talk with?” When you take action, be sure to go back to your “source” and thank them – it’s something that can’t be overlooked.
